Are you a Welsh speaker, first or second language?

If you are, here is some information for you about how you can use and develop your Welsh-medium skills while you study here at the University of South Wales.

Some students can choose to study modules through the medium of Welsh as part of their studies such as students studying Performance, Business, Criminology, Surveying, Primary Studies, Business and Police Sciences. To find out more visit Study Opportunities.

1. Welsh Language Resources

  1. The Porth. Here you'll find teaching materials that is available at a national level to any student who can speak Welsh and resources are provided for a wide choice of study areas.
  2. Other Welsh resources: There is a list of different types of computers online and how to find a grammar checker.

2. Your Career and the Welsh Language

The university offers an additional short module (5 credits) to any student who can speak Welsh. The purpose of the module is to increase your employment opportunities by equipping you to work in Welsh or bilingual organisations.

3. Submitting assignments through the medium of Welsh

You could apply to present your written assessments through the medium of Welsh in accordance with having a conversation with your tutor or Personal Academic Coach. To find out more about the process, please read this document.

4. Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol

By becoming a member of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, you will receive the latest information about Welsh-medium higher education, including their scholarships, opportunities to apply as an ambassador for the Coleg and an opportunity to work towards the Coleg's Welsh Language Skills Certificate.

Welsh Language Skills Certificate

This qualification shows employers your Welsh capabilities. You will need to prepare a short presentation and sit a written exam. A Welsh tutor from USW will provide help and support every step of the way, so if you're concerned about your Welsh skills, don't worry at all, as our staff will help you.

5.Personal Tutor

As a Welsh language speaker you'll be offered a Welsh speaking colleague where you can discuss any concerns informally/formally in Welsh. To find out more, visit
